What exactly is “Device First Seen Timestamp” in branch meta data?

Asked on January 3, 2017 in Technical.

Hi!

Is there any documentation that explain the metadata fields in detail? Though most of the fields are self-explanatory and obvious, I am a bit curious about “Device First Seen Timestamp”.

Does this timestamp correspond do the time the device was first seen by Branch (irrespective of the app that had the branch SDK installed) or is it the timestamp corresponding to the first time the user used my app?

Thanks!

Mohit

Hi Mohit, great question. The first seen time is the time when Branch saw that particular device for your specific app. It does not overlap with any other app on the phone that uses Branch as well. Let me know if you have more questions. Thanks!

Hi Ankit!

Thanks for answering. Can you please double check this? Actually I have noticed on “Install” event of many users that Device First Seen Timestamp is of older date (meaning that the user had installed this before – so this should be a reinstall), but the Install event’s branch metadata has the value of “reinstall” as false. Hence the confusion!
