How can we track attribution? Best tools?

Asked on May 4, 2016 in Other.

It’s becoming increasingly important for us to track attribution. Any recommended tools?

First of all I’m going to assume you mean mobile attribution. There are a number of ways to do this but by far the easiest (not that mobile attribution is by any means easy) is by using a 3rd party mobile tracking provider. The largest of these in North America are TUNE, Adjust, Kochava, AppsFlyer, Apsalar. There are also other players like Mparticle that essentially allow you to apply a “wrapper” to all your mobile SDKs, including tracking, and toggle them on and off and also linking tools like Branch (ahem), Segment, and others that also provide some neat link attribution tools. But in general, if you have a mobile app and want to track how users are using your app and attribute those events to a particular channel, you will want one of the aforementioned mobile tracking providers.

They each have different levels/types of reporting, price, network integrations, etc so I would think about what exactly your goals are, what data you will need, and what channels you will be marketing through before deciding which is best for you. Down the line you may also want to consider an internal data warehouse as well, but will likely need a full time analyst to make this worthwhile. Hope this is helpful!
