Share on linkedin is registered as a click on link

There is an issue when i share on linkedin (on iOS, using the branch custom UIActivityItemProvider)  there is an issue where it’s like the link that I share is automatically tapped.

To reproduce:

  1. Share a branch link with linkedin
  2. Put app in background
  3. Open app
  4. in the initSessionWithLaunchOptions I will now have the same params as I shared

I believe this is more of a linkedin issue than a Branch issue, but maybe there is something you want to do on your end to prevent this.

Ahhhh, this is interesting! I was able to replicate what you’re seeing. I think LinkedIn is scraping the link immediately after it is shared, which our system interprets as a normal link click. Facebook does something similar and I know we had to add a special workaround for it. Perhaps LinkedIn has just started doing this recently.

I will pass this along to our iOS team. Even if it is a ‘LinkedIn problem’, we should still be able to implement a fix for it on our end.
