Modify existing branch link while maintaining meta tags

Asked on August 4, 2017 in Technical.

Hey all,

So I’m trying to generate links to be shared to facebook from within my ios app with a custom image and a specific meta tag:

<meta name=”medium” content=”image”>

Since this tag isn’t a <meta property… tag, I can’t use $custom_meta_tags to define it. So instead, I’m creating the links with an $og_url which branch will scrape for the tag (I’ve tried this using $fallback_url too fyi). That part is all good. But then following the public api (https://github.com/BranchMetrics/branch-deep-linking-public-api/blob/master/README.md#modifying-existing-deep-linking-urls ) I’m sending a PUT request to update the $og_image_url parameter. This is working fine. I get a response with the updated link. But now the link seems to have essentially refreshed, without the desired tag.

According to this: https://mobilegrowth.org/questions/question/how-to-get-branch-to-re-scrape-page-meta-tags/  tags scraped from $og_url are “hard coded” into the link at time of creation and updating the image with the described method should leave tags in tact. **what am I missing??** I’ve been banging my head against the wall for days on this before posting here so please help.
