Link doesn’t always open my app’s google play store page

Hi all, I’ve created a branch link, it’s working in every aspect except one:

If a user who doesn’t have my app clicks the link on their device they are supposed to be taken to my app’s store page. This sometimes happens and sometimes doesn’t happen. As in when it doesn’t work it just opens up google play.

I’ve noticed that this tends to happen when I have google play running in the background on my device.

Since typical users aren’t in the habit of force closing their background apps this is a use case that would happen a lot.

Have you guys encountered this before? Is there a solution?

FYI, I’ve tested this out on emulator and two different Android devices.

I’m sorry you are having issues here.
We have seen a couple apps run into a similar issue in the past, but, unfortunately, there isn’t anything we can do on our end. This bug exists in the PlayStore app itself. I recommend you reach out to the Google support team and ask them for a solution to this issue. If I remember correctly, they will need to whitelist your app. Here is the link to the bug that we opened on Chrome:

Hi Ankit,

I’ve tested smart links from Kochava (do the same thing as a Branch link) on the same device for my app and they work every time without any problems so this is something that’s unique to Branch.
