Desktop install tracking without deepview/landing page?

Asked on October 27, 2016 in Marketing.

Hello,

I am interested in using Branch but the desktop landing page is hindering me–I believe a lot of potential users will not leave their sms and bounce right away. Is there a trick to overcoming this challenge?

Thank you.

Hi there! You can set your desktop redirection URL to anything you wish — it does not need to be the default landing page with SMS field. Feel free to use your regular website or any other page you feel would be better for your users!

Hi,

Thanks for your reply! How then does branch analyze attribution if branch link takes the user to website, then clicks on download? Do I have to implement a page?

Branch tracks the user when they redirect through the link, on the way to your website fallback (and App Store, presumably). After that, the user is tracked again inside the app after download. You don’t need to implement anything inside the fallback page itself.

Hi,

Thanks again and just for clarification: How does branch know if a user clicks on link from desktop (and is redirected to our website) then downloads from his phone? With deep views this change in device makes sense but I’m not sure how this is possible without deep views.

If the user clicks the link on desktop, and then separately goes into the App Store to do a search for the app, there is no way to track that. However, if you embed a text me the app feature on your page, we connect the original desktop click with the link that is sent via SMS and can close the loop that way.
